“To get out of the Ghetto and make it,
it’s always one chance, or a half.”

Ghetto Kids is a feature length documentary film co-produced by Toy Green Films and the Ghetto Kids Foundation. A story of how incredible people can be when there is no Plan B, and how one child from the ghetto grew up to create a worldwide dance phenomenon.
Kavuma Dauda – the founder of the Ghetto Kids Foundation – has a simple plan; to get as many African children off the streets as possible. An ex-street kid himself, he has climbed his way out of the ghetto to become a multitalented humanitarian hustler, focused on pursuing his ‘calling’ – to give children a better life.
The film tells the story of Kavuma and the extraordinary children who are part of the Ghetto Kids dance troupe. Each from unimaginably tough backgrounds but, who exude nothing but passion, determination, and humility.
During filming for the ‘Ghetto Kids’ documentary, we asked founder, Kavuma, what could we do to make a difference to him, the children and the foundation. “Goats”, he said, “I want to build a goat farm”.
“If I can give every child one goat then they can learn about business and farming, they can breed them and generate revenue for their loved ones, and never go back to the streets again.”
Through Lillie Street we helped make that happen. Each child now owns their own goat, which can help provided a source of income for them and their loved ones. We also provided goats for the Foundation, which can bring steady income to cover food, school and medical costs.
Kavuma also wanted to build a new home for the Foundation, with room enough for 100 children and “everything a child could admire”. This project is underway, and the children are currently settling into the new home. But, more can be done. Interiors, furnishing and additional resources are needed. We are working to help make this a reality.
